Citizen Power Calls For Berlusconi To Step Down NO BERLUSCONI DAY – LONDON, 5TH DECEMBER 2009 A massive global network of ordinary Italian citizens and other supporters will converge on cities around the world on 5th December to call, in a single voice, for the end to Silvio Berlusconi’s premiership. This event is a peaceful and politics-free demonstration publicly calling for the resignation of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, that will also represent the first step towards a new and fresher political class in Italy. The London branch of the event will see ordinary citizens from Italy, the UK and beyond, regardless of their political beliefs, coming together in Eaton Place in front of the Italian Consulate. The idea was instigated on 9th October 2009 on the social networking website Facebook by a group of bloggers and intellectuals. The event was initially planned in Rome, Italy, for 5th December, but as word, about the event, began to spread on the internet, plans for parallel events in different cities across Italy and around the world began to spontaneously emerge. From a single isolated demonstration, Italian citizens around the world have developed a huge global network in little more than a month, encompassing ‘No Berlusconi Day’ events in the USA (San Francisco, Sacramento), Canada (Ottawa, Montreal), Argentina (Buenos Aires), and in many European capitals including London, Madrid, Amsterdam, Vienna and even Istanbul, to name just a few.

Each demonstration in each city will carry the same message on the same day for the same purpose.

There are already more than 200,000 people signed up to the No Berlusconi Day website

( http://www.noberlusconiday.org), all pledging to demonstrate and call for Berlusconi’s resignation. But most importantly of all, this movement has emerged entirely from ordinary citizens.

The coordinators of these events around the world range from housewives to research scientists, professionals to teachers, all volunteering their time for free to make the views of the group loudly heard. The London protest will take place in front of the Italian Consulate, one of the most important symbols of the Italian Government in London. The message that will be carried by the demonstrators is that a man who has denied the equality of citizens under the law, who has put his own interests in front of the common good, stamping on the freedom of information and attacking the Italian Constitution, who has insulted public values and the dignity of Italy, cannot be the Prime Minister of Italy. The coordinators of the group are unpaid and do not collectively hold specific political affiliations. • Silvio Berlusconi is the longest-serving Prime Minister of the Italian Republic (President of the Council of Ministers of Italy), a position he has held on three separate occasions: from 1994 to 1995, from 2001 to 2006 and currently since 2008. He is the leader of the People of Freedom political movement, a centre-right party he founded in 2009, merging Forza Italia, his own party, with Alleanza Nazionale of Gianfranco Fini and other parties. (For more information, see www.noberlusconiday.org). • Although the No Berlusconi Day group is non-political, the group and event has received public support and endorsement from a number of high-profile activists, including Salvatore Borsellino brother of the anti-corruption judge Paolo Borsellino who was murdered by a Mafia car-bomb in 1992.

In his last video interview, given on May 21, 1992 to Jean Pierre Moscardo and Fabrizio Calvi, Paolo Borsellino spoke about the possible link between Cosa Nostra’s mafiosi and rich Italian businessmen such as future Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

    3. You should all read this book” Il caso Genchi storia di un uomo in balia dello stato” by Gioacchino Genchi, to understand how such a man became the Italian Prime Minister. How can we let him destroy the memory of men like Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino who fought for to eradicate the Mafia in our country and were killed by people\who are still governing our country.

    4. Tante sono le ragioni per dire basta.
    Ma tra tutte una e’ importantissima. In questi giorni il governo Berlusconi sta realizzando il piu’ grande furto della storia privatizzando totalmente l’acqua, bene comune dell’umanita’. Il processo di privatizzazione era gia’ partito alcuni anni fa con la legge Galli, ma l’attuale normativa in discussione in Parlamento toglie definitivamente l’acqua dalle mani dei cittadini e da quelle dei Comuni loro legittimi rappresentanti in tema di proprieta’ e gestione dell’acqua.
    Nella piattaforma del NO B-day l’acqua non c’e’.
    Forse sarebbe il caso di inserirla ricordando a tutti che in Parlamento giace nascosta in cassetto la Legge di Iniziativa Popolare del Forum Nazionale dei Movimenti per l’Acqua firmato da 406.000 persone!

    5. Ciao Claudio, anch’io pensavo di fare qualcosa qui a Edimburgo, ma penso che sarebbe meglio partire tutti alla volta di Londra e unirsi agli altri lì. Edimburgo immagino rimarrebbe comunque una cosa circoscritta a pochi, mentre a Londra (si spera) potremmo essere centinaia
